Oak is the most widely used species for creating hardwood floors. There are many good reasons you should choose a real wood floor. Hardwood floors are full of character giving warmth and style to any decor or colour scheme in the home and have always given a classic and timeless look. They give durability and years of use that far out weigh carpets which may need replacement every several years. Small dents or scratches add to the charm of a real wood floor and any significant wear can be sanded away and refinished after many years.
Contemporary hardwood floors
You only have to look at what has become even more fashionable over the years, at one time it was seen as an expensive option, but real wood floors are more readily available and less problematic to fit making hardwood flooring a more viable option for any style of home, old or new.
Wide and light coloured floors give the feeling of space and oversized herringbone patterns give a contemporary look in the most modern of homes. Our flooring showroom based in the Leeds Bradford area will give you a clear idea of what is the right floor for you. We have on display natural colours, Grey, Lime washed and darker real hardwood flooring.
Antique and original looking floors
You can expect many years of durability from a hardwood floor, some of our antique distressed floors are designed to last decades without any sanding or refinishing. Being distressed or tumbled in the first place means you will hardly notice any extra scratches or marks made by furniture or accidental knocks, simply apply more coats of hard wax maintenance oil over the years to enhance the aged look of what will become an even more beautiful floor over time. These floors are really popular in period houses such as terraced, old detached villas and barn conversions giving an authentic look and feel.
Maintaining and cleaning your hardwood floor
Cleaning hardwood is easy. It only requires a basic wood floor cleaner and a microfibre mop for everyday cleaning. Polishes can be applied to lacquered and oiled floors to give extra protection and every year or two oiled floors can have a coat of maintenance oil applied to rejuvenate the floor. If the worst thing happened and there was some serious damage occurred to the odd plank then this can be repaired or replaced easily without disturbing the rest of the floor. If the floor is maintained well, the typical surface finish will last decades before refinishing is needed. Remember to use maintenance oil on oiled floors to expand the life of your floor.
